It was during the opening moments of AEW Big Business that Mercedes Mone made her highly anticipated debut in All Elite Wrestling. It was after a long time that the former WWE Superstar appeared on TV to shake things up for the female talents of the company which was further dubbed as a kick-off to a global women’s revolution.
However, while starting this new journey, Mercedes Mone also remarked about a WWE return before her AEW debut and those comments could have been taken in a wrong way by the officials of the latter promotion.

While speaking to Evan T Mack on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mercedes Mone was asked if she would ever make a return to WWE, someday. The former WWE Women’s Champion made it clear that she knows she will return to WWE as she still has a lot of unfinished business with them,
“I know I’m gonna be back there one day. Like I said, I have a lot of unfinished business in a lot of places.”
Mercedes Mone Reportedly Signs Multi-Year Deal With AEW Following March 13 Debut
Mercedes Mone’s timing of mentioning the WWE return wasn’t proper?
According to a follow-up provided by Dave Meltzer on The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Mercedes Mone promising to make her WWE return must have rubbed a lot of people in the wrong ways. Meltzer noted that mentioning a potential return to WWE just days before starting with AEW wasn’t proper timing. AEW is considered the former Sasha Banks’ preferred destination but some do see it as a stepping stone until returning to WWE,
”Regarding WWE. I know I’m gonna be back there one day. Like I said, I have a lot of unfinished business in a lot of places.” Boy did this one rub a lot of people the wrong way. Time will tell, and quite frankly she should always have it in her mind the possibility of going to WWE, but saying so days before she’s about to start in AEW wouldn’t be the right time politically to say that.”
It was also highlighted by the source that the negotiation process of Mercedes Mone with both WWE and AEW continued at one point. AEW offered the desired financial package while WWE did not. Despite that, the comments of an eventual return to the WWE could have been detrimental from the company’s perspective.
For the time being, Mercedes Mone had been on an AEW payroll for over two months, with the deal believed to have come to fruition in early December. This agreement with AEW was further hinted at with the veteran female star power securing several trademarks related to her name, hinting at a long-term partnership with the AEW.
