Going by the earlier schedule of the WWE, Money in the Bank was supposed to be the next PPV event on the calendar. But now we will be getting WrestleMania Backlash next month while no mention was made regarding the gimmick-based event, leaving the fans in confusion. Going by the recent traditions, they expected to see the exciting event in May which is not the case.
The good thing is that the event surrounded by ladders will be back as WWE hadn’t scrapped the 2021 edition. Ringside News has confirmed that fans will be getting Money in the Bank this year. Backlash now dubbed as the “WrestleMania Backlash” is being used to switch the spot with the expected MITB event.
The source was apparently told that WWE made the decision to swap the two pay-per-views, “a long time ago.” But it was only let known with the official announcement regarding the date for WrestleMania Backlash. This is when the fans realized the company has switched the events around.
The previous dates around the PPVs are correct, but the pay-per-views have been swapped. WrestleMania Backlash will air on May 16th while Money in the Bank will be available on June 20th.

Money in the Bank 2021 slated for June 20
Both these events will take place at the current ThunderDome setup placed in the Yuengling Center, Tampa, Florida.
“Lots of people were a bit taken back when MITB wasn’t announced as the next WWE pay-per-view. We can confirm that it is happen, but it’ll be in June now. This decision to swap Backlash for Money in the Bank was made ‘a long time ago,’” mentioned Steve Carrier of Ringside News.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer also supported the same theory that previously Money in the Bank was supposed to be on May 16 with Backlash scheduled on June 20th.
“The pay-per-view was going to be Money In The Bank, and now it’s going to be WrestleMania Backlash.”
As mentioned above, Money in the Bank was the first post-Wrestlemania PPV event. Otis won the male version of the ladder match but he eventually lost the contract to The Miz, later the year. Asuka won the Women’s MITB match to win the Raw Women’s Title from Becky Lynch, only a night later. This didn’t happen in a match but rather Becky stepped away from competition due to pregnancy and thereby decided to vacate her title.
