Riddle has long been gunning for the Intercontinental Championship and he will finally be getting a shot at the belt at Money in the Bank 2023. After weeks of being outnumbered by the champion Gunther and his Imperium cohorts, the redemption point is finally upon Matt Riddle as he looks to become the mid-card champion, ending the historic reign of his opponent.
As announced on Raw, Riddle will finally be battling Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship this Saturday at Money in the Bank 2023 for the Intercontinental Championship. This is the seventh match to be confirmed for the upcoming edition of the gimmick-based event.

Money in the Bank 2023: Gunther challenges for an Intercontinental Championship
The feud between the two of them started after Gunther’s allies Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser attacked “The Original Bro” upon his return. Thus Riddle has been dealing with a hurt ankle. During this week’s Raw, Riddle challenged “The Ring General” in a match at Money in the Bank 2023 where his championship will be on the line.
In response, Gunther and his Imperium buddies again attacked him. Gunther struck him with a boot to the face to put him before accepting the challenge. Before leaving, Gunther again stomped on Riddle’s ankle to hurt him, badly.

Now, Gunther will enter Money in the Bank 2023 as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the modern era. He’s held the title for over a year. After entering the main roster, he won the belt from Ricochet on the June 10 episode of last year. His latest defense came last month against Mustafa Ali at Night of Champions. Despite being a fan favorite in Saudi Arabia at the PLE, Ali lost the match against a dominant Gunther.
