Rey Mysterio and Dominik are the unusual father-son combo in the professional wrestling circuit who are pursuing their career at the same time under the same banner. To date, they have been allies showing a strong bond between themselves. But you never know what happens next on WWE programming and who becomes a foe.
Royal Rumble is one of those matches which often puts friends against each other. Family rivalries could also happen in an environment where every man would be wrestling for themselves for a spot at the main event of WrestleMania. It could cause a very tense situation between Rey Mysterio and Dominik if needed.
While speaking to WWE The Bump on YouTube, Rey Mysterio was asked about his son Dominik’s participation in the Royal Rumble match. It came down to a discussion where a situation might occur so that he has to face his own son and eliminate him from the match. The Master of 619 is not ignoring the idea of throwing his own son over the top rope if it comes down to that,
“I would have to throw him out right away. Yes! I mean, we have to do it. There is just no other option. Either he goes or I go, but I’m sure that I get first dibs on that, so he’s going over the top,” he stated.

While Rey Mysterio won the Royal Rumble match in 2006, he would certainly like to do it again in 2021. This would be Dominik’s very first appearance in the over-the-top-rope melee but he can’t rely on his father to protect him during the match.
Potential future plans with Dominik and Rey Mysterio
Dominik Mysterio made an impressive debut at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event in 2020 against Seth Rollins. Since then he has gone on to wrestle in several big-time matches including tag matches with his father, Rey Mysterio. They even spoke of picking up the tag team titles, together, at some point. They’re not opposing the idea of facing one another, either.

People do believe that it would be a money fight if the two family members go up against each other in a singles contest. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Dominik talked about the possibility. The youngster was asked if he will be willing to step in the ring with Rey Mysterio in the future. He said that it won’t happen anytime soon but he is open to the idea,
“Yes, most definitely. I think that’ll be — that’s still a long time from now, but I remember all the spankings he gave me as a kid. So, I’m sure our match will come.”
