Roman Reigns last wrestled on Smackdown on the June 17 episode where he defeated Riddle to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. After a hiatus of more than three weeks, he was back on board, and as always, a number of potential future challengers were lurking around him.
SmackDown kicked off with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns coming out with The Usos and Paul Heyman to a huge pop from the audience present at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Roman Reigns was seen posing with his Titles amid pyros in the ring when Mr. Money In The Bank Theory came out on the entrance ramp but he didn’t stay long on the ramp.
Paul Heyman then hyped up the fact that his master will perform at the highest level at SummerSlam and defeat The Beast again. After this, Theory came out with the Money In The Bank contract and ran around the ring before leaving.
Then it was reminded that Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus was set for Smackdown main event with the Winner challenging the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns for his titles at Clash at the Castle 2022.
WWE Summerslam 2022: Title Defense Announced For Undisputed Champions
Just before the matchup, Sheamus backed out of it and stated that Drew McIntyre could still have COVID-19 problems. So, Butch replaced him in the scheduled match which took place without any implications.
In the match, Butch climbed to the top turnbuckle but missed McIntyre as the latter delivered the Claymore for the pin to win. After the match, Ridge Holland attacked Drew, but Drew took him out with a Futureshock DDT. Michael Cole then noted that we still don’t know who will get the title match, possibly against Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle.
