Like always, Roman Reigns headlined the Summerslam 2023 premium live event, this weekend to deliver a one-of-a-kind Tribal Combat Match with Jey Uso. The brutal contest saw Jimmy Uso making a surprise return to the WWE. He would eventually betray Jey and cost his twin brother the match.

The victory allowed Roman Reigns to make it through day 1,070 of his historic reign as the Universal Champion. This is also the longest title reign by any champion or championship since the first WrestleMania or in the modern era of the WWE. Now, there’re concerns about the champion being injured while coming out of the show.

On yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer first disclosed that Roman Reigns was indeed injured just minutes going into the Tribal Combat. A moment of Jey delivering a suicide dive on him was also published by Wrestling News to indicate the exact moment when the injury would have occurred.

WWE tight-lipped about Roman Reigns’ injury

In more update on the situation, Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall to confirm that Roman Reigns was indeed hurt during his SummerSlam match and that the company is being very tight-lipped about the situation around the top attraction of the company. It was also assumed that the injury won’t affect his presence on Smackdown, this week,

“WWE hasn’t responded to our official inquiries regarding Reigns, but we’ve heard the same that Observer did about it happening early on. There were those who would likely be in the know in a creative capacity for Smackdown who hadn’t even heard about the injury until word emerged Tuesday.”

Roman Reigns still scheduled for Smackdown appearance

It’s worth noting that, “as of Tuesday afternoon, it hadn’t changed creative,” and only time will tell if repercussions are needed for Roman Reigns to be on TV. The good thing is that the top-most superstar of the WWE is done with his duties for Summerslam and he won’t probably be needed in the coming weeks.

Going by his part-time schedule, Wrestling Observer previously already noted that his next match could be happening at Survivor Series 2023. But even prior to that show, Crown Jewel could be waiting in early November or late October which should also drag Roman Reigns back to action if he gets medically cleared before that PLE.
