Just like Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar turned out to be the feud of the decade for the WWE which lasted for several years, the company found a new program that they want to continue with in the upcoming days. As given in the headline, Cody Rhodes is the big rival to be put against the undisputed champion when the time is right.

In the main event of Wrestlemania 39 Night Two, Roman Reigns defeated the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Being the top-most babyface superstar on the WWE roster, many believed that Rhodes was in the position of dethroning the champion from historic title reign that is ongoing since the 2020 summer but that wasn’t the case.

Many people thought that Rhodes’ loss was not the right booking decision on WWE’s part and they did expect a rematch, sooner than later. The night after Wrestlemania 39, Roman Reigns was eventually challenged to a rematch by The American Nightmare. But, Brock Lesnar arrived at the scene and started his own feud with Rhodes to take the program in a different direction.

Plans around Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes program

Wrestling Observer Newsletter has indicated in their recent report that “Reigns vs. Rhodes is the long-term direction for the ultimate destination match.” The two top figures will eventually collide in a rematch and if the reports are to go by then their next bout could take place at WrestleMania 40, possibly in the main event capacity.

For the time being, the two have been kept aside following WWE Draft 2023. Roman Reigns was kept on the Smackdown brand while Cody Rhodes was picked by the Raw brand. However, Rhodes spoke with ComicBook in early May and made it clear that he’s still gunning for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, making it clear that the rematch will happen, down the road.

Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and The Fiend in a No Holds Barred match to win that belt at Payback 2020 in August of that year. This made him a champion for 1000 days in the WWE at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
