ToggleSince donning The Tribal Chief tag, Roman Reigns has been ruling the WWE with an iron fist with The Bloodline firmly behind him. The faction has since drifted apart which also produced a massive bout at Summerslam in the main event of the premium live event. Eventually, WWE broke its own rules while culminating in the match, big time.
In a Tribal Combat at Summerslam, Roman Reigns defeated Jey Uso to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Jey was very close to beating The Bloodline leader before Jimmy Uso interfered in the match and betrayed Jey Uso. Thus, he also caused his own twin brother the top-most prize in sports entertainment.

Tribal Combat Rules broken by WWE at Summerslam
Eventually, both Both Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso ended up attacking Jey Uso in the match, which was since a screenshot made the rounds on social media following Summerslam which gave an insight of WWE’s rules for the Trial Combat.
The rulebook specifically stated that no one can interfere in the match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso unless the match concludes. As given below in the statement, it’s evident that WWE ended up making a major change to the match without announcing it.
“It’s Tribal Combat where anything goes and but no one can interfere until Jey and Roman’s match is over! No disqualification, no count-out. The only way to win is by pinfall or submission.”

Jey Uso never planned to beat Roman Reigns at Summerslam 2023
A theory has also been circulating around the IWC stating that WWE had previous plans for Jey Uso to defeat Roman Reigns to become the new undisputed champion which wasn’t the case. While speaking on McGuire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE never had plans for the former tag champ to beat the Head of the Table in the Tribal Combat,
“I never even heard anyone discuss that as a possibility. I mean, obviously, they’ve already got whatever it is. They’ve got plans going for Roman as champion for months down the line, so Jey wasn’t going to win.”
The way the match ended, it’s evident that Jimmy and Jey Uso will now enter a feud. With Roman Reigns reportedly being injured coming out of the Tribal Combat, he’s supposed to be out of action for the time being. After missing Payback and Fastlane, it’s likely that the Tribal Chief will be back in action in either the Saudi Arabia event or Survivor Series in November.
