After what transpired following Smackdown main event, The Demon Finn Balor could be coming after Roman Reigns and his Universal Championship. This week’s episode from Jacksonville, Florida saw the champion retaining in emphatic fashion over Finn Balor.

Balor was originally supposed to receive the title match opportunity at Summerslam 2021 but John Cena took away the chance from him by signing the match contract. Then Adam Pearce handed Balor the title shot in which he was attacked by SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos before the match. Despite that attack, Balor took Roman Reigns to the limit.

Balor hit the Coup De grace successfully but The Tribal Chief kicked out of it and on the way he intentionally hit a low blow on his opponent which the referee missed. Roman Reigns then applied the Guillotine submission move to which Balor fainted and thus the champion retained the title.

The Demon coming after Roman Reigns?

Roman Reigns made his exit from the ring with Paul Heyman raising the WWE Universal Title right behind him, once the match was over. Reigns’ music was briefly interrupted by a red light and the sound of a heartbeat going out over the arena. While the fans cheered, The Head of the Table seemed concerned by the interruption. But that quickly stopped as he kept on walking to send SmackDown off the air.

This post-match moment led the fans to speculate that Finn Balor may back The Demon persona for a match with Roman Reigns at WWE Extreme Rules PPV on September 26. It was also speculated that this could be a tease for Brock Lesnar, or perhaps “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, who was released from WWE in July.

Going by the current updates, it’s more likely that this was a teaser for the return of The Demon since Wyatt is no more with the WWE. We have not seen Balor’s alter-ego since WWE Super ShowDown 2019 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where The Demon defeated Andrade to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

As for Brock Lesnar, he is already scheduled for an appearance during next Friday’s Super SmackDown episode from Madison Square Garden as he’s expected to continue his program with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman.
