Unlike this year, the winner of Royal Rumble 2024 will get to choose his favorite championship to go after. For the first time since April 2022, two world titles will be in the WWE starting later this week. At Night of Champions 2023, a new World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned via the culmination of a tournament.

Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023 match but he didn’t get to choose for any of the World Championships he’d challenge at WrestleMania 39. Since Roman Reigns won both the WWE and Universal Championships at Wrestlemania 38, the title remained unified from that point.

That won’t be the case for the winner of the Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 match since he will get to either challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship (currently held by Roman Reigns) or the World Heavyweight Championship (the inaugural champion to be either Seth Rollins or AJ Styles at Night of Champions 2023).

Gunther is expected to win Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 match

According to a recent update from Xero News, WWE Officials intend to make the Intercontinental Champion Gunther the winner of the Royal Rumble 2024 match, next year. Being a member of the Raw brand, he should be going on to WrestleMania 40 to challenge the then World Heavyweight Champion. These early plans could change, down the road.

Gunther has held the Intercontinental Title for 345 days, which has already made him the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the modern era. Also, he’s just 110 days away from breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record of becoming the single longest Intercontinental Title reign of 454 days back in the 1980s. If he continues to hold on to the belt on the Road to Royal Rumble 2024 then the new record should be made on September 8.

Although there’s nothing official regarding Royal Rumble 2024, according to an earlier report by WESH 2, the Tourist Development Tax Sports Incentive Committee has requested $850,000 for the Greater Orlando Sports Commission to bid on hosting the event. If the bid is successful then the January 2024 WWE PPV will take place at the Camping World Stadium in the city which already has the experience of hosting two Wrestlemanias.
