Samoa Joe: Is The WWE Raw Superstar Legit Retired, Forever?

Samoa Joe was reintroduced to the RAW announce team during the WWE Performance Center pandemic shows in recent weeks. He previously had a stint on the commentary despite not having any prior experience but he did pull off a fair job. He did return to in-ring action only to be re-injured and then get pushed to commentary, again.

Since then, there have been major speculations on his wrestling career as WWE didn’t let him leave the announce booth. It is being rumored that Samoa Joe has a concussion potentially around his head that is the reason why the WWE medical team is concerned with his well-being. At this point, there’s no positive update either on his comeback in the near future.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about Samoa Joe’s current status in WWE. A listener of the program wanted to know if Joe was “done in WWE” as an in-ring performer Meltzer responded by saying that Joe will wrestle again, but he will continue to play his role on commentary, in the meantime.

“When he first started doing the announcing I was told that he was too valuable as a talent to have him as an announcer, but obviously minds changed from when I was told that to when they decided to revamp it.” (Transcription by Ringside News)

Edge Reportedly Returning From Injury At WWE Royal Rumble 2021

Around SummerSlam 2020, Samoa Joe was involved in a couple of segments with Seth Rollins during his feud with the Mysterio family. The confrontations were heated enough to fuel up the rumors about donning back his wrestling gear. But then again his commentary colleague Byron Saxton noted how he’s medically disqualified from getting back to action.

Samoa Joe suffered a couple of concussions in quick fashion, earlier this year. He bumped on his head badly during a match on Raw while landed on the same position while shooting for a commercial, a few days later. Since WWE takes concussions seriously, it’s doubtful if Samoa Joe is currently cleared for a return to the ring. The good thing is that he’s still on television as part of the commentary team.

It was noted by the source that “in theory,” Samoa Joe could be wrestling again where they can always insert him into an angle to make it happen. But he continues to be present on the announce desk which as this is a role he is said to be excelling in.
