The future of Sasha Banks in the professional wrestling industry has been under speculation for the better part of 2022. It was due to the fact that she and Naomi walked out in the middle of Raw back in May. Back then, they vacated the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and that also led to a lot of changes in the following months.
The two have since been retaining mystery around their future in WWE. Especially for Sasha Banks, the speculations are endless given that she’s one of the trailblazers of modern-day pro wrestling for female superstars. It now appears that she is gearing up for a return to in-ring competition but it won’t be happening in the WWE.

Sasha Banks to compete in San Jose in February 2023?
Sasha Banks will be attending the Tokyo Dome event in the first week of January as Mercedes Varnado or Mercedes Mone. Although it hasn’t been officially announced, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the winner of the Kairi vs. Tam Nakano IWGP title battle from that night will defend the title on February 18th in San Jose.
The current update from WON suggests that event is the likely place for Sasha Banks to step back into the ring after a hiatus of more than nine months,
“Mike Johnson reported that Sasha Banks as Mercedes Varnado or Mercedes Mone would be at the Tokyo Dome show on 1/4. That hasn’t been confirmed, past we did learn that the Kairi vs. Tam Nakano winner of the IWGP title match on that show is right now scheduled to defend the title on 2/18 in San Jose.”
While Sasha Banks still remains a roster member on WWE’s website, she hasn’t been listed on WWE’s internal roster for some time. Previously, she had also removed all references to WWE from her social media which led fans to believe she is no more associated with the company. Reports suggest that she is still negotiating the money situation with the WWE. At the same time, she’s also weighing on outside offers that are possibly leading her to NJPW in early 2023.
