CM Punk had no intention to be back in MMA
CM Punk had two fights in the UFC and he lost both of them before coming to pro-wrestling through AEW. He lost to Mickey Gall via Submission at UFC 203 and then again lost to Mike Jackson via unanimous decision at UFC 225. However, his 0-2 MMA record became 0-1-1 NC as his loss to Jackson was turned to a No Contest due to Jackson testing positive for Marijuana on fight night.
Since AEW is open to working with other companies, there’re some rumors claiming that CM Punk may be allowed to have MMA fights if he wants to in the future. But Tony Khan doesn’t need to get involved in the situation given the fact that the veteran wrestler has already decided his fate for MMA.
CM Punk has removed himself from the USADA drug-testing pool affirming that he doesn’t intend to be back in MMA. He was a part of the pool since 2014. Despite his last fight taking place in 2018, he was drug tested 6 times in 2020. But to date, he works as a commentator for CFFC (Cage Fury Fighting Championships), and Tony Khan has no problems for him to continue working with that gig while he will still be under an AEW contract.
