Reports are already out claiming that, WWE Hall Of Famer Edge will return in time for SummerSlam 2021 to have a match on that night. WWE, itself has started advertising him for the particular first TV episode that goes down with live fans in attendance within one month from now. He will be returning on the July 16th episode of SmackDown, it appears.
As noted, this is going to be the first WWE TV show with fans in attendance ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began and it could mark a huge program, eyeing this summer. WWFOldSchool reports that Edge vs. Seth Rollins is currently being discussed for SummerSlam 2021. It’s likely the return of the Rated R Superstar could commence the same in that very night.
Update On Edge’s Comeback To WWE In 2021
While WWE Universe would be down for this dream match to happen, the history between these two men goes way back to 2014. A heel Rollins threatened to break Edge’s neck if John Cena didn’t agree to put The Authority – Triple H and Stephanie McMahon back in power, during an episode of Raw. Eventually, Cena was forced to do so to save his old buddy cum rival.
Backstory set for Edge vs Seth Rollins program
Edge then shared a backstage segment with Rollins, a couple of years later on Raw. He also got a little payback on Rollins during the Men’s Royal Rumble 2020 match but their interaction during the match was very short. Then again at this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match, he threw Rollins over the top rope to get some payback.
Edge was last seen on WWE TV on April 11, in the main event of WrestleMania 37 Night Two where he was hit with a Con-Chair-To and pinned (along with Daniel Bryan) by Roman Reigns. The rumors had that he might re-engage into the championship feud against Roman Reigns following his return over the Universal Championship. But Roman is reportedly booked in a match against John Cena at SummerSlam.
Rollins has been feuding with Cesaro for months as they’re set to face each other in a WrestleMania 37 rematch (Cesaro defeated Rollins in that match), this Sunday at the Hell In A Cell 2021 pay-per-view.
As for Edge, the former champion is set to return to WWE as a babyface (per Wrestling Observer Newsletter) during the build for SummerSlam. With live crowds in attendance, it’s certain that will get a huge pop. Bookings also show that he will appear on the September 3rd episode of SmackDown and perhaps the storyline around him will continue even after the Biggest Party of the Summer.
