Son of legendary Rey Mysterio, Dominik will make his WWE in-ring debut in the grandest way possible. At this Sunday’s SummerSlam 2020 pay-per-view, he will be featuring in a Street Fight against Seth Rollins that will go down at the WWE ThunderDome that is at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It will bring a unique experience for the WWE Universe, to say the least.
But Dominik will be having a lifetime moment of his career when he faces the cornerstone figure of the WWE on that night in the first-ever match, he’d be competing. A very few could expect to have such a mammoth debut at the biggest party of the summer, SummerSlam 2020 via a marquee match. However, WWE officials didn’t want the youngster to make his in-ring debut in a singles match.

According to Tom Colohue, Rey Mysterio was the one to make sure that WWE put Dominik in a singles match at SummerSlam 2020 if or else he wasn’t going to sign a contract with WWE. Mysterio got what he wanted and thereafter he signed a new deal to continue his stint with WWE. As a result, he made an appearance on the go-home edition of WWE Raw for SummerSlam, as well.

“I really can’t see this as anything but a message from Vince McMahon to Rey Mysterio. Something like, if your son gets hurt that’s on you for pushing us to get him involved too early because the WWE did not want Dominik debuting in a solo match at this point, but that’s what Rey wanted, and Rey wanted to make sure they did what he wanted before he would look at signing a new contract,” said the source.
According to further reports from Wrestling Observer, Kevin Owens was also scheduled to continue his feud with Seth Rollins and form a team with Dominik Mysterio on TV. This could have resulted in a tag team match at SummerSlam 2020 but then Vince McMahon dropped Owens out of his feud with Rollins because Rey Mysterio agreed to stay with WWE and Dominik had to perform in a solo match.
This is the reason why Owens didn’t make the save for Dominik when he was getting beaten by Seth Rollins and Murphy, a few weeks ago as he’s no longer a part of that feud. Now it’s all about Seth Rollins and Murphy against Rey and Dominik Mysterio en route to SummerSlam 2020.
Owens lost to Randy Orton in the main event match of August 10 RAW to get written off TV. There are no plans for Owens to have a match at SummerSlam 2020 if not WWE adds him for a kick-off match at the very last moment.
