The Undertaker competed last in a WWE match at Wrestlemania 36 in 2020 but that was barely a proper match. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation, WWE pulled off a cinematic match with tremendous visual treatments used in it. In reality, the greatest sports entertainer of all time featured in a proper match inside the squared circle, exactly three years ago.

In July 2019, WWE Network presented Extreme Rules pay-per-view event at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the opening match of the night, The Undertaker’s final proper wrestling match took place. He teamed up with Roman Reigns to defeat Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre.

This was the best match of the night per the fans and critics as The Undertaker pulled off an epic in-ring performance against the two top heels. Fans gave The Phenome a standing ovation after the match when he also passed the torch to Roman Reigns by saying that “It’s your yard, now.”

Roman then left the ring and allowed The Undertaker to enjoy a moment, along with the fans. In the background, Michael Cole delivered some fitting words,

“The Undertaker may be The Deadman, but you are looking at a Living Legend! Enjoy it, ladies & gentlemen. We don’t know how many more times we’re going to be able to enjoy what we witnessed tonight – the absolute athletic prowess of one of the greatest of all time!”

After Extreme Rules 2019, The Undertaker only had two more TV matches in the WWE – a short impromptu match at Super ShowDown for just a Chokeslam and pin-fall which led to the cinematic Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 36.
