After waiting for a long time in her career, Toni Storm was able to win a mainstay championship of a top professional wrestling promotion. However, that title reign was possibly belittled with the interim term and she had declared frustrations over this in the past.

The original AEW Women’s World Champion, Thunder Rosa had to take a time off from the ring due to a back injury prior to AEW’s All Out pay-per-view in September. She did not vacate the title but rather a four-way match held at the PPV featuring Toni Storm, Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Jamie Hayter for the interim championship.

Toni Storm ended up winning that match to start a strong title run but that run always had the interim tag attached to it. In an interview with The Ringer, the champion called for Rosa to come to work and defend the title. She was the first one to mention that if Rosa can’t show up to work due to the lingering injury then she should be stripped of her title,

“Personally, I think she should just come to work and defend her championship like she’s supposed to, like a champion should. But if the injury lingers too long, I believe she should probably be stripped. And then I should be the AEW undisputed Women’s World Champion like I was supposed to be at All Out. That’s verbatim. I think she should defend her title.”

Like a true champion, the former WWE Superstar pointed out how she should be the actual AEW Women’s Champion before dropping the belt to Jamie Hayter that’s not the case due to Rosa’s ongoing hiatus. Toni Storm also noted that this should be the case for every performer in the circuit and not just with Rosa.

Toni Storm had a strong case of becoming AEW Women’s Champion

In a recent update, Rosa stated that she was making progress and she was also able to run on her two feet for the first time in several months. However, there’s no potential timespan available for her return that could still take several months. In the meantime, Toni Storm lost her AEW Interim Women’s Title at Full Gear as she was defeated by former friend-turned-bitter rival Jamie Hayter.

With Rosa’s return still being a question mark, some definitely wondered if AEW should strip Rosa and make Hayter the official undisputed AEW Women’s World Champion. That’s what exactly happened during the post-AEW Full Gear episode on November 23.
