The former NXT Women’s Champion finally debuted on the WWE main roster at Summerslam 2022 after a long wait as part of the DAMAGE CTRL faction. Many assume that keeping her under the wings of Bayley and Dakota Kai eventually held her back. The group was constantly used to put over other top talents and the true potential of the Japanese sensation was lost.
For a one-off match, IYO SKY was put into the Raw Women’s Title Match at Backlash where she received a thunderous reaction from the audience despite being a heel. Giving her the win at the women’s Money in the Bank 2023 ladder match will be the first step on WWE’s part to establish a future bonafide main-eventer. They can’t have further plans with DAMAGE CTRL, either since Dakota Kai has been sidelined with an ACL injury.
