Summerslam is the second biggest event in the WWE PPV calendar. Starting in the summer of 1988, the PPV will celebrate it’s 29th anniversary this year from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Since the beginning, the event was termed as “the biggest party of the summer” and has been fixed for the month of August. It falls under the category of big four PPVs in which the other three are Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series. So, with that being said it is evident that every year there are some headliners for the event which gives us some epic matches. The main event of Summerslam has seen tag team matches to Hell in Cell matches based on different gimmicks. So, here’s a flashback of the top 5 most memorable matches in the history of Summerslam.
The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar (Summerslam 2002)
The rock was the reigning WWE undisputed champion at that point who clashed against the monster called Brock Lesnar, who just arrived in the company and stood with an undefeated streak. The main event was indeed a war between the two of them. With Brock dominating the first portion of the match, The People’s champion came back in the second half, fighting brilliantly. He even planted an interfering Paul Heyman through the announce table with a Rock Bottom but that was not enough to put away the beast. With a devastating F-5, Brock Lesnar pinned The Rock to become the youngest WWE champion in WWE history, in just 25 years of age.
