Batista as the World Heavyweight Champion had once become synonymous on Smackdown just like John Cena was on Raw as the WWE Champion after the 2005 Draft. A top babyface name was needed to carry the gold on the blue brand so that it would no more be considered to be a secondary belt to the WWE Title and Batista perfectly got fitted into the slot.
Before winning his first title at WrestleMania 21, Batista promised to be the longest-reigning World Heavyweight Champion in one single run and he stayed true to that promise by holding the belt for 282 days before a tricep injury forced him to vacate the title. The Animal would capture that belt on three more occasions while feuding with other legends like Triple H, Edge, or The Undertaker.
