Movie fans, especially the Fast & Furious franchise lovers are aware of the beef between Vin Diesel and The Rock. For years there has been tension between the lead star of the Fast filmography and the wrestling legend and also a Fast & Furious co-star. This is also being considered to be one of the reported reasons why the former WWE Superstar may haven’t had featured in the ninth installment of the Fast saga.
Apparently, the issues stemmed down during the filming of Fast 8 (released in 2017) to The Rock developing his own spin-off series from the film franchise Hobbs & Shaw. In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Diesel attempted to set the record straight on his beef with the seven-time WWE Champion.

Diesel claimed the tension between them came from him giving some “tough love” to Dwyane Johnson to help to portray the character correctly. Being a producer of the movie franchise, Diesel thought that the Hobbs character played by The Rock was the toughest to play. So he wanted to give his own inputs to begin the rift in the first place.
“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character,” Diesel says. “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer to say, Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know—Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic.”

The Rock won’t be a part of the F9 movie
Previously, The Rock also took to Instagram and wrote while some of his male Fast 8 co-stars “conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals… others don’t.” He added that “the ones that don’t are too chicken s–t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.” It appeared to be an indirect jab towards Diesel. Diesel also indirectly addressed the jab stating that he would do anything ‘to get performances in anything’ he’s producing.
Later in an Instagram post from late 2019, The Rock intended to squash the beef against Diesel as he appeared with Hobbs & Shaw co-star Jason Statham. He thanked Diesel by calling him “brother Vin” and also admitted the fact that he’ll be seeing Diesel’s Fast and Furious character Toretto “very soon”.
As noted above, The Rock will not appear in the upcoming Fast 9 film, scheduled to be released in theaters this Friday, June 25. The film will feature another WWE star John Cena, who will star as Diesel’s brother in the antagonist’s character.
