Wade Barrett has become a permanent member of the WWE NXT commentary team. WWE announced, last month that the former Nexus leader has signed a new contract with the company to remain on the black and gold announce team with Vic Joseph and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix. This was the first time he was seen on WWE TV in the past five years.

Obviously, rejoining WWE fueled up speculations about coming back to action, at some point. In an interview with Digital Spy, Wade Barrett was asked if he’s had any condition to start wrestling full-time again. He indicated hunting for the WWE Championship and outsmarting the champion, Drew McIntyre.

Check out the full comments made by Wade Barrett,

“In truth if I was to come back as a full-time in-ring guy, I really would be chasing the sunset of my career. I don’t think there’s that many more years left in me.

So the question is, what would I want to achieve? The only thing I didn’t achieve in WWE that I always wanted to achieve was to become the WWE Champion, and that title is now held by an old friend of mine, Drew McIntyre.

So taking him on for that title is something that certainly might tempt me back for a match or two.

And it would be very nice if we could have the match and bring a pay-per-view over to the UK, me against Drew at Wembley Stadium.”

On paper, WWE could have set up a dream feud between Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre. The UK fans will love this since both these men belong to that region. While McIntyre has turned out to be the first WWE Champion from the UK, Barrett was unable to live to his full potential. Bad creative decisions are the prime reasons behind that.

After Wade Barrett made these comments about McIntyre, the two got eventually involved in a social media banter while teasing the match. The former Intercontinental Champion said the following in an interview with BT Sport.

“It isn’t a question of Drew McIntyre calling me out. Whenever I’m ready I can just step in the ring and take whatever I want from him. He knows that, he’s aware of it. One day perhaps the world might see it.”

The King of Claymore Country fired back with the below reply,

“Stay behind your desk grandpa, your stand-in has a better chance than you do.”

WWE perhaps has the feud in mind between these two roster members from England. But they’ll have to wait to kick off the program until they can start touring, live again.

Wade Barrett first signed a WWE developmental deal in 2007 and continued performing in the company till May 2016 after he decided to let his contract expire. Apart from being the Nexus leader, he won King of the Ring and Intercontinental Championship on five occasions. Earlier this year, he did some commentary work for the NWA debuting in December.
