The innovation of the Money in the Bank ladder match changed the perspective of the main event in WWE history. Days were gone when only the bonafide and handpicked marquee players were able to headliner WWE programming. The opportunistic briefcase mostly helped the coward heel-ish type characters to hit the main event scene in the blink of an eye.
Women Superstars have long been barred from competing in such type of gimmick matches but as the Women’s Evolution kick-started in the year 2016, they were brought to the forefront. As they could compete in numerous gimmick matches, Money in the Bank was also added to the list. It was in 2017 June that the Smackdown-exclusive PLE took place but later both the brand’s women could have taken part in it.
Over the past few years, the women’s Money in the Bank winners have also delivered some of the most infamous cash-in moments. In total, six such gimmick matches took place from the female roster crowning six separate winners and all the cash-ins have been successful, thus far. In today’s story, we will rank those moments from worst to best.
6. Asuka cashes in on Becky Lynch in 2020
In this rarest scenario, the champion herself produced the Money in the Bank contract to surrender her championship to the future challenger. Asuka won the MITB briefcase in 2020 in May in a match that took place at the WWE Headquarters. The night after the PLE, then Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch hijacked the briefcase and appeared on Raw.
Asuka was irate with her actions but upon reaching the ring, she found the Raw Women’s Title lying inside the Money in the Bank briefcase as Becky vacated the belt since she was due for a maternity hiatus. This indeed was a piece of breaking news as the-then longest reign of the red brand title came to an end. But the exciting cash-in element wasn’t there on this occasion.
