Wrestlemania 39 main event was already announced between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes after the latter won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023 edition. Then in the main event of the Elimination Chamber 2023 premium live event, Reigns defeated Sami Zayn to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and thereby keep the main event lineup intact for the April PLE.
Jimmy Uso interfered and attacked Sami Zayn during the match. Jey Uso also appeared, but he refused to hit Sami with a Steel Chair. Sami accidentally speared Jey in the ring and the distraction allowed Roman to capitalize with chair shots followed by a Spear to win the match and confirm his position at the main event of Wrestlemania 39.

After the match, Kevin Owens returned to save Sami from The Bloodline. Owens hit Stunners to Reigns, Jimmy, and Paul Heyman. Sami also hit a Helluva Kick to Reigns to end the night. A potential alliance with Owens was obviously teased during this segment while many believe that Sami’s current popularity may push him into the Wrestlemania 39 main event.

WWE keeping Wrestlemania 39 main event lineup intact
A report from WWFOldSchool noted WWE had always moved forward with their original planning for the Show of Shows. Also as of this writing, the source noted that WWE is moving ahead with the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes match as the Wrestlemania 39 main event.
Some fans speculated that WWE may change the Undisputed Championship lineup as there was interference in the Elimination Chamber main event, but that’s not the case. Rather, those happening as well as Kevin Owens’ return should set up another match. The source noted that Sami is currently scheduled to team up with Kevin Owens to face The Usos for the Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 39.
The storyline for this match was started via Sami’s accidental spear on Jey at Elimination Chamber. Then Owens refused to be Sami’s partner in taking down The Bloodline on the post-Chamber episode of Raw. This is due to Sami not listening to Owens despite the prior warnings around Bloodline. Down the road, they’re eventually going on the same page to challenge for the tag titles at Wrestlemania 39.
