Wrestlemania 40 is away from the WWE calendar for almost ten months but speculations around the event are all-time high, as always. Even before the 39th edition of the showcase of the immortals, there were reported plans around the main event match of the upcoming show including the main event.
Ringside News previously reported a couple of ideas are being nurtured around Wrestlemania 40 headliner bout. It would see Cody Rhodes vs. GUNTHER, while another idea involves Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes featuring in a rematch from this year’s show of shows. If these plans are intact then Rhodes is a sure-shot favorite to be in the main event plans for sure.

WWE making far-advanced plans for Wrestlemania 40
In more update, the source has now reported after reaching out to a tenured member of the WWE creative team that the company is really booking this far in advance when it comes to Wrestlemania. They were told that the creative team does have a plan for the main event for next year’s showcase of the immortals.
A tenured member of the creative team confirmed to Ringside News that, “I am very aware of the WM 40 main event. No spoilers.”
Roman Reigns still the favorite to main-event Wrestlemania 40
Time will tell which of the main event will eventually come to fruition at Wrestlemania 40 but given Roman Reigns’ status we expected that Reigns vs. Rhodes could be the frontrunner match. According to a previous report from WrestleVotes via GiveMeSport, the highly-anticipated rematch between Rhodes and Reigns is “on the table” to main event the show slated from Philadelphia.
This news may come as an exciting one for the fans, but plans can always change in the unpredictable world of professional wrestling. The Rock is also open to return for one last match in his WWE career and you can never count him out from the main event spot if he does return at Wrestlemania 40.
According to Andrew Zarian, WWE wants to update their record books of the longest World Title reign and in that case, Roman Reigns won’t drop his undisputed championship even at Wrestlemania 40. Speculations are that he would at least break Hulk Hogan’s record of being the champion for 1,474 days. In that case, Roman will keep holding his belt until September 13 of 2024.
