In the main event of WWE Backlash 2023, Cody Rhodes competed in a fresh match against none other than Brock Lesnar. In what appeared to be a strong rejuvenation story after coming up short against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39, Rhodes had not only picked up the win but also gave back Lesnar a beating that he deserved for his heel-turn, the night after Wrestlemania 39 Night Two.
Cody Rhodes came out first followed by Brock Lesnar and both the men received tremendous ovation from the WWE Backlash 2023 crowd in Puerto Rico. Lesnar was posing in front of the announce table when Cody hit him with a Suicide Dive to take him down. Cody then hit Brock in the head with Steel Ring Steps 3 times, a move via which he was hurt by Lesnar on the April 3 episode of Raw.

The main event of WWE Backlash 2023 hadn’t started officially started as Cody kept on assaulting Lesnar. Eventually, Cody started attacking Lesnar with a Steel Chair. The Referee finally took the chair away from Cody and rang the match bell to get things underway.
Cody hit Lesnar with two Disaster Kicks to take control of the match. As Cody went for the Cody Cutter, Brock caught him and hit him with a German Suplex which was his first offense at WWE Backlash 2023. Cody again went for a Crossbody from the top rope, but Brock again caught him and hit him with a Fallaway Slam.

Lesnar hit Cody with a series of suplexes to take him to the Suplex City when Cody accidentally exposed the turnbuckle. Brock wanted to use it to his advantage but he was sent face-first into the exposed turnbuckle which left his face covered in blood. But being The Beast, he planted Cody with an F-5 in that state but Cody kicked out in a massive spot from this match at WWE Backlash 2023.
A seemingly helpless Lesnar brought back his Kimura Lock as he tried to injure Cody’s arms. A cunning Cody pushed the submission hold and pinned Lesnar while being in the lock to literally steal the victory at WWE Backlash 2023. Lesnar was given a towel at Lesnar to clean himself up while Cody posed on the ramp to send the PLE off the air.
