Recent reports claim that WWE is nurturing some old-school gimmicks to bring those back on TV and Cyber Sunday appears to be one of them. The company certainly has a few pay-per-view ideas that they haven’t used in a long time to offer something fresh to the fans and as a result, another King of the Ring tournament could also be happening, very soon.

WWE is reportedly considering returns for some fan-favorite themes as they are going back to the road from July 16. According to a new report from Wrestle Votes, those themed events are King of the Ring and a “Viewer’s Choice” event that could be aligned with the Cyber Sunday idea. Assumptions are that the shows could take place around early 2022 or late 2021.

“Hearing WWE is potentially looking at more ‘themed’ live shows upon returning to the road. Old School RAW, KOTR tourney, Viewers Choice ala Cyber Sunday all possible for late 2021, early 2022,” the source reports.

WWE hasn’t held a Cyber Sunday event since 2008. That pay-per-view was main-evented by Batista vs. Chris Jericho with Stone Cold Steve Austin serving as the special guest referee. The company may not be able to gather such star powers as people come back. But they can certainly involve them in conducting matches with huge stipulations.

Cyber Sunday allows fans to vote for matches & stipulations

The concept of Cyber Sunday allows the fans to vote for which matches they want to see and what type of stipulations, throughout a given night. While 2008 marked the end of such tradition, WWE did hold a Viewers Choice night in 2011 where Kelly Kelly became the Divas Champion as the people got her into a title match, all of a sudden.

WWE needs to pull up viewership by holding special episodes to pop some ratings. Some big moves are required as live fans are returning to the scene. Cyber Sunday can certainly be the option to gauge their interests.

According to Fightful Select, there is also an idea to hold a Wrestling World Cup tournament involving all the brands to raise awareness regarding the three brands. The idea won’t have anything to do with soccer, but it would resemble that famous tournament’s name to get some mainstream feel to it,

“There was also a Wrestling World Cup pitched, which is self explanatory, and would include all brands.”
