The long demand of a WWE India Live Event will finally be met, later this year when WWE Superstars will be in the country for a grand show. Previously, WWE CEO Nick Khan hinted at the show set for the summer of 2023 and now we’ve received more updates on the exact schedule of the show.
As revealed by a report in Wrestling INC and multiple other outlets, a WWE India Live Event will take place on September 9 in the city of Hyderabad. While the venue wasn’t disclosed, the belief is that the Gachibowli Stadium in the state of Telengana will be the host of the show.
First World Heavyweight Championship Defense Announced For June 5 WWE Raw Episode
This venue was also scheduled to be the host of the WWE India Live Event in early 2023 which was scrapped. The show set for January 18 of this year was postponed indefinitely. According to the-then reports from Wrestling Observer, a TV merger deal between WWE’s broadcast in India, Sony Sports Network, and Zee was the reason why it was canceled,
“The decision was made by Sony Sports Network, which is merging with Zee in India, to hold off the show until the merger is finalized. The merger is expected to go through in April, so the show would take place after April.”
WWE India Live Event is expected to be a non-televised house show
Currently, there’s no update on whether the rescheduled WWE India Live Event will be televised or not. WWE’s weekly SmackDown episode will be hosted on September 8 and it’s safe to say that the entire WWE roster won’t be present in the subcontinent for the possible house unless Smackdown will be pre-taped for that evening.
The announcement of a WWE India Live Event falls in line with WWEs current spree of hosting international shows. Their three consecutive premium live events, BackLash, Night of Champions, and Money in the Bank have been scheduled outside the USA territory, respectively in Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.
The 2023 WWE India Live Event will not be the first time that a WWE show will go down in the Indian market. Back in 2017, a similar show went down which was main-evented by Jinder Mahal and Triple H. Popular WWE faction, The Shield (Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns) performed in a Tag Team Match on that night. Prior to that, another show took place in January 2016.
