WWE: Kurt Angle Reveals How He Almost Broke Undertaker’s Wrestlemania Streak 1

The 2017 inductee into the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame, Kurt Angle recently took part in Reddit AMA. He discussed quite a few things during his first stint in the WWE including Chris Benoit, the “You Suck” chant and much more.

However, the biggest revelation came from him when he mentioned the Undertaker’s probable opponent at Wrestlemania 22 was none but him. That’s not all since Taker himself was convinced to digest a loss against him to shatter his Wrestlemania streak.

He stated that it was the Phenome himself who came up with an idea of pitting the Olympic Gold medalist against him at the grandest stage of them all. At that point, Angle was the world heavyweight champion and hence the match would be contested as a title match. Considering that WWE would not let Taker win the gold at that point, the Deadman was ready to take a loss. These were Kurt Angle’s comments:

“Undertaker did go to me in January of that year and said:

“Listen, I think we should talk to Vince. I know you’re the champion . I know they don’t want to go with me as champion, so I’m willing to lose if we have to. I never had that Wrestlemania match that I wanted and I know that I can have it with you.

“He encouraged me to talk with Vince. It was never thought of. Vince never thought of it.
As a matter of fact, Vince shot it down right away! But it was an idea Undertaker had. It wasn’t an idea I had. It wasn’t an idea Vince was thinking of doing.”

As you can see Vince McMahon scrapped the idea, immediately. Angle then featured in a triple threat match against Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio to lose the gold to the later. Taker, on the other hand, featured in a casket match against Mark Henry.
