SmackDown Live audience was up for a big treat on this week’s episode as they got to see the biggest box office attraction present in the WWE. “The Beast” Brock Lesnar returned and challenged Kofi Kingston to a WWE Championship match on SmackDown’s 20th-anniversary episode (which will also be SmackDown’s debut on FOX) on October 4th.

Brock Lesnar also hit an F-5 on Kofi Kingston to send him a clear message. Now the match is official via statements from WWE.com,

“Kofi Kingston is adamant on being a fighting champion, but Brock Lesnar is determined to make the WWE Champion regret that mindset. After The New Day secured a Six-Man Tag Team Match victory over Randy Orton & The Revival, The Beast Incarnate returned to deliver Kingston a challenge and then a brutal F-5.

The WWE Championship will be on the line when SmackDown LIVE heads to FOX as an all-new rivalry emerges. Can Kingston slay The Beast and retain his title, or will Lesnar usher in a whole new era of SmackDown LIVE?”

The match on SmackDown on October 4th will present us with some interesting stats regarding Brock Lesnar. The upcoming match against Kofi is going to be Lesnar’s first match on SmackDown in over 15 years! The last time he competed on SmackDown was against Hardcore Holly in March of 2004. Despite being a blue brand guy, he mostly wrestled on behalf of Monday Night Raw, thus far.

With SmackDown moving to FOX Network, it is now time for Brock Lesnar to make regular appearances on the show from now onwards. With brand extension Draft soon returning to WWE programming, we expect The Beast to become the marquee attraction on Friday Nights instead of Mondays. Apparently, this has been the plan, all the way, for a long time.

Cagesideseats.com carried a report from John Pollock which stated that WWE had plans for Brock Lesnar on SmackDown, for a long time. So it basically had to happen, at one point. The sudden return would raise interest among the fans who must be tuning up when FOX airs the first episode on October 4th. Here’s more from the source,

“Brock Lesnar challenging Kofi Kingston for the WWE championship on the first SmackDown on FOX show had “been in the works for a long time.”

It looks like that Kofi Kingston vs. Brock Lesnar was a way back plan within the WWE creative team for a long time. They have decided to execute it, recently just to boost up TV ratings on the blue brand. The interesting rivalry must be producing a solid match on SmackDown on the debut episode of FOX. Lesnar might end up becoming the new WWE Champion, after a decade.
