The landscape of the WWE changed in a big way following a shocking announcement from Roman Reigns. He was the reigning Universal Champion from Summerslam 2018 onwards. The original plan was to host a triple threat match where he was about to defend the title against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. But his battle against leukemia put an abrupt end to those plans.

The match turned out to be a singles contest between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. The latter one was the favorite one to become the new Universal Champion. The beast incarnate was ready to go back to the UFC promotion after losing the title to Roman Reigns at Summerslam. However, he still had only one unfinished date with the company.

WWE booked Brock Lesnar to work in the Crown Jewel PPV to let him finish his contractual dates. Roman Reigns was the original one to retain his Universal Championship. Wrestling Observer Newsletter disclosed the original finish of the match as per the initial planning. However, it came down to a one-on-one contest due to the former champion’s hiatus.
So the officials had to start from scratch. Apparently, this needed contract re-negotiation with the longest-reigning Universal Champion of all-time. This ended up confirming a new deal between the two parties. Only this way the biggest pro-wrestling promotion of the world could have handed the prime championship of WWE Raw to Brock Lesnar. Here are the updates from stillrealtous.com that revealed more details of his WWE contract,
“Brock ended up signing a new deal at some point last week. Brock Lesnar’s new WWE deal reportedly locks him in for at least two more appearances with the company, but it is a non-exclusive deal which allows him to go to UFC whenever he wants. Lesnar is currently set to face AJ Styles at Survivor Series, but it’s not known when he might be returning to UFC.”
We have been speculating for a potential fight between Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar for a long time. If both the superstars remain champions in their respective brands, then it could go down earlier in January 2019. This would be the first time when an active champion in the WWE would compete inside the Octagon. This would earn big mainstream attention for the wrestling promotion.
