A shocking title change followed on last night’s Smackdown Live in the women’s championship match. Charlotte Flair received an impromptu shot to the title against Asuka setting up a rematch from Wrestlemania 34. She took full advantage of it and picked up the title submitting The Empress just 12 days prior to the biggest event of the year.

Asuka started the match on Smackdown with full aggression delivering chops to Charlotte Flair. The Queen came back with some of her own pendant Flair chops to come back into the match. Asuka hit her with a release German Suplex but she missed a hip attack. Charlotte Flair went to the top rope but missed the moonsault attempt. This allowed the champ to lock in the Asuka Lock.

Charlotte Flair managed to come out of the signature submission move and hit a sit-out powerbomb on Asuka. Thereafter, she bridged into the Figure-Eight Lock to which Asuka tapped out handing over the title to her opponent. With this win, Charlotte Flair has now become a record eight-time women’s champion in the WWE. Also, she will be heading to Wrestlemania 35 as the champion to compete for another title that is an incredible fact!

Results from Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles

Asuka has been the most underrated champion from the Smackdown roster. Imagine this woman has been undefeated for more than 900 days at one point. Her first title win at the main roster happened at TLC which got overshadowed by the Raw women’s championship storyline. The same angle put her in the backseat throughout the time-being.

We should remind you that Asuka defeated current sensation Becky Lynch fairly at Royal Rumble. But it’s the less emphasis on the champion that made us forget about this. WWE creative team could not arrange her compact storylines in recent times, either. At Fastlane, she overcame Mandy Rose’s challenge with ease.

We supposed it was a one-off short feud for the go-home PPV for Wrestlemania, only. Going forward, we expected a solid opponent could be waiting for her. Previously, sources did suggest that the creative team does have big plans for her at the biggest event of them all. But no such plans might have worked out for the Empress of Tomorrow in recent times leading to this misfortune on Smackdown. Charlotte Flair, on the other hand, continues to make history in the WWE.
