Drew McIntyre was last seen in the WWE in the year 2014. He was literally without any proper storyline for a couple of years forcing him to not renewing his contract with the company. He would then go on to the TNA Impact Wrestling to revitalise his career. His contract with Impact Wrestling was up starting from the month of March starting speculation that he might re-sign with WWE, again.
WWE officials kept contact with him on a regular basis to come up with a new deal and that came up to fruition. Drew McIntyre appeared during the NXT Takeover: Orlando event prior to Wrestlemania to give hints of his signing with the company. Aftermath, he appeared in an interview with ESPN to publicly declare that he will join the NXT brand, soon.
He stated that he has helped to build brands and this time it would not be any different. He is eying the NXT championship upon debuting on the developmental territory of the WWE. It is clear from the initial talks that Drew is going to be the next big player on NXT with Nakamura being done with his stint. Here are Drew’s comments:
“Well, the answer’s pretty simple. I’ve won championships all across the world. I’ve helped build brands. So what’s the next logical thing for me to do? It’s to come here and win the NXT title. If that’s not clear enough for everybody, Drew McIntyre has signed with NXT.”
The Scottish-man also stated that Impact Wrestling has also made an offer to him to be a top guy on their roster. However, they kept him waiting for a long time which led him to move forward from them. This is what he said about the deal during an interview with the Sun:
“They came to me last week with an offer and it was very very good one, one of the best in the company and a position as a top guy but the reality is that because they waited until the last second I had to turn it down. Everything was so last minute. I had to think about backup plans and family because it went to the wire.”
In case you have forgotten, Drew McIntyre was the ‘chosen one’ in the WWE. He was handpicked by none other than Vince McMahon and received an imminent push arriving on the main roster. However, lack of planning and storylines ruined his career and left the company.
