There was some natural backlash after the Universal Championship match at Greatest Royal Rumble. The audience was already frustrated with the never-ending title reign of Brock Lesnar that is going on since Wrestlemania 33.
Also, his part-time stint and letting one step further to the UFC promotion makes him the ultimate villain for the fans.
So, despite what they think about Roman Reigns, they would have loved it to see him snatch the title away from the beast. However, that never happened. Plus, the situation turned out to be in a way where the referee’s wrong decision robbed the contender. It makes the fans negatively react on the social media.
The finishing segment witnessed Roman Reigns spearing Brock Lesnar through the steel cage. It landed both of them on the floor. The champion was still lying on the walls of the cage, whereas, Reigns fell on the mat. It was his feet which touched the mat, first. It is why he was the clear winner of the match.

But, the decision went to the champion’s favour. Brock Lesnar was allowed to hold the title, still. The WWE Universe was outrageous about this decision, and the situation was addressed on WWE Raw, as well.
But, recent footage was published by Ringsidenews that pointed out that the referee took the right decision!
You can check the given video here which shows after going through the steel cage; Reigns did land on the mat. But, both of his feet did not touch the floor. One of his feet was kept on the ringside apron while the other one was on the mat.
In the meantime, Brock Lesnar rolled out of the cage side and landed his both feet, first. Technically, there’s the right decision taken by the official. The appointed referee declared the match winner just after the spear got delivered. Apparently, he was not wrong and there’s no need for him to apologize to the fans.
It is quite interesting that despite this fact, WWE addressed his mistake. Furthermore, they kept the original decision.
