Vince McMahon continued the tradition of changing matches heading into Wrestlemania 35. Now he has changed the potential Fastlane main event match. Kofi Kingston is no more the challenger for the WWE Championship. Instead, we will see Kevin Owens challenging Daniel Bryan in this big match.
Huge title match took place after Smackdown
The scenario changed in the opening segment of Smackdown Live. Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Daniel Bryan, and Rowan were present to sign the contract for the Fastlane title match. Kofi Kingston also arrived onto the scene to get big cheers from the crowd. But he never got to pen his sign down onto the paper.
Why The Rock did not appear on this week’s Raw
Vince McMahon arrived into the scene to make announcing that someone deserves this WWE Championship match more than Kofi Kingston. He introduced Kevin Owens who made his return after a hiatus of five months. The signing was done inside the ring after which the new match was official. Despite the booing from the crowd, Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens is happening at Fastlane.
Daniel Bryan has been a strong champion on Smackdown Live since after winning the belt in November 2018. He turned heel with an eco-friendly gimmick that is something unique in WWE history. Going forward, back to back victories against AJ Styles and Elimination Chamber solidified his strong status even more in the WWE.
That stayed until Kofi Kingston arrived on the WWE title picture as a miracle. He was nowhere near the main event scene unless it was for Mustafa Ali who got injured. The high-flyer took the spot of the 205 Live import to prove his potential. Incredible performances for the last couple of weeks handed him the WWE Championship match that he was looking for a decade.
Last week, Kofi Kingston pinned Daniel Bryan for a second week in a row on Smackdown. This earned him the WWE Championship opportunity on a one-on-one capacity. This was for the first time ever that WWE’s version of Dreadlocked Dynamo got such a big match in a pay-per-view card. But unfortunately, this match is no longer present on the card. Kevin Owens has now replaced him on Fastlane match card.
