The headliner heading into last night’s Smackdown was a solo contest between Kurt Angle and AJ Styles. There’s no need to explicitly say why this match is a dream bout for the WWE Universe. These two are perhaps the greatest technical wrestlers available in the pro-wrestling world who were yet to square off in a WWE ring.

With Kurt Angle heading into retirement, WWE received one final chance to make this dream match happen on last night’s Smackdown Live. The anticipation was high around this one which failed short, owing to the Wrestlemania buildup. The two competitors started the contest showing respect to each other before Angle nailed AJ Styles with a suplex. He went for the Angle Slam but AJ dodged it.
AJ Styles converted this into the Calf Crusher but Kurt Angle soon reversed it into the Angle Lock. Styles somehow sent Angle into the turnbuckles only to find out Randy Orton standing behind to deliver an RKO. The match got disqualified as Orton went for a further ambush. But Kurt Angle saved AJ Styles hitting Orton with an Angle Slam.
It was pretty evident to happen since AJ Styles and Randy Orton will take on each other in a match at Wrestlemania 35. With less buildup, the veterans cannot deliver a good matchup. So, the Hall of Famer had to contain himself for just a few minutes of a matchup.
Kurt Angle having a farewell tour received a new booster from this week onwards. WWE made some big-time announcements regarding some dream matches for the next few days featuring the Hall of Famer. Unless the so-called tour heading into retirement was becoming dull, otherwise.
As part of this, we have seen Kurt Angle already delivering a never-before-seen match in the WWE on this past Monday Night. The only Olympic Gold Medalist went up against Samoa Joe in a solo contest. He picked up the win via pinfall in what was his second last match on WWE Raw. The final match is waiting for him on next week where he will compete against Rey Mysterio.
As for last night’s Smackdown Live, the two most technical wrestlers went head to head against each other in a dream match. We have never expected to see Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles in a WWE ring, one day that became reality. The fans embraced the moments at the Mohegan Sun Arena from what turned out to be the final match of Angle on Smackdown. It’s needless to say the match could have been far better unless the interference happened.
