For the better part of 2017, the feud between Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens has continued on Smackdown Live. The bad blood between these two has reached to the boiling point and witness a culmination at the Hell in a Cell PPV. These two will lock horns inside the demonic structure which had seen Shane performing some crazy stunts with it. Later, the heat got stretched forward.
This match was booked by none other than Vince McMahon himself who appeared on the blue brand in the Sin City special edition on September 12th. He confronted the prizefighter telling him that he dares if Owens files a lawsuit against WWE. McMahon threatened to fire him and also made that match official.
According to the reports from SportsKeeda.com, the original angle for this storyline was something much different which would eye a huge match at Wrestlemania 34. But, The Chairman had not liked it and scrapped it from the get-go. So, we were left with this one-off appearance from Mr McMahon.
As per the suggestions from the source, The CEO of WWE would have confronted Owens making an offer to him. The Hell in a Cell match would be made official with Shane McMahon’s WWE shares on the line. Triple H would have made his entry to the scene making Owens the winner of the contest.
In case you don’t know, Owens has been the guy under Triple H’s wings for a long time, and also received the Universal Championship because of him. It would have started the much anticipated Shane vs Triple H feud for next year’s Wrestlemania. Check out the steps of the rivalry as stated by the source:
1) Vince would set up the Hell in the Cell.
2) Owens would face Shane and defeat him with the help of Triple H.
3) Owens would give his shares to Triple H who would replace Shane on SmackDown- leaving Shane with zero stakes in WWE.
4) Shane would return a few months later to begin a WrestleMania program with Triple H.
Rather than giving this storyline a green signal, McMahon rather decided to put an extra effort into the storyline to remain as a babyface and take a beating from the prizefighter. This segment was added at the very last moment.
