There has been a major change in Crown Jewel match card following this week’s Smackdown. A series of surprising events followed in the opening segments ensuring that Daniel Bryan should miss the PPV in Saudi Arabia. This let none other than Samoa Joe to receive another title opportunity on this Friday night at the global show. This will mark the continuation of a heated rivalry from the summer.
In a storyline perspective, AJ lied about hitting Bryan purposely, last week. A heated conversation broke out between the two of them to prepone the match on Smackdown. AJ Styles wanted to defend his title against Daniel Bryan in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The commissioner of the show could not agree more to host the match right there to give the fans a major treat.
AJ Styles defended the WWE Championship successfully forcing Daniel Bryan to tap out of the Calf Crusher. But his victory celebration came to a quick end when Samoa Joe arrived on the scene. He attacked both the participants of the title match from behind. Primarily, his target was the champion who got locked into the Coquina Clutch. The Samoan Submission Machine lied him down in the middle of the ring.
Afterward, AJ Styles seemed extremely annoying with this sneak attack. So he begged another WWE Championship match at Crown Jewel against Samoa Joe to Paige. Smackdown general manager assured him that she will do the paperwork for the match. Later the night, WWE.com officially let us knew that this is going to be the replacement match for AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan.
Samoa Joe will be replacing the leader of the YES nation as he is unwilling to go to Saudi Arabia. Here is the official announcement,
“Will Styles get the level of retaliation on The Samoan Submission Machine that he has been craving after all that Joe has said and done to his family? Or will Joe take advantage of The Phenomenal One’s anger and defeat his nemesis for the WWE Championship? Find out when WWE Crown Jewel streams live on the award-winning WWE Network this Friday at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT.”
Samoa Joe and AJ Styles already had an intense rivalry over the entire summer. The last time these two met was at the Super Show Down event where AJ forced to tap him out via the Calf Crusher. Joe has vowed to capture the WWE Championship from the champ on this Friday Night to end the feud for good. We will see whether he can be able to keep his promise.
