Daniel Bryan had a topsy-turvy ride for the entire year of 2018. He started as the general manager of Smackdown Live. WWE cleared him to come back to action just two weeks prior to the Wrestlemania 34 event. It was one of the biggest returns of all-time in the history of pro-wrestling. Fans were more than happy to see the GOAT back in action at the grandest stage of them all.

Why Daniel Bryan is the best heel in the WWE?

The YES movement received a slow start with lackluster feuds with Big Cass. The much-anticipated rivalry with The Miz also fell short during the summer. This raised the question whether WWE officials have already given up on him. Reports of Wrestling Observer also hinted the same saying that the creative team is not considering him for the main event scene.

Defying all the odds, Daniel Bryan became the new WWE Champion on go-home edition of Smackdown for Survivor Series. He defeated AJ Styles via clean pinfall. If that was not enough of a twist in the tale, then he also turned heel on the same night. It was so shocking for the fans as they could barely believe their eyes. But the move sent Bryan straight to the top of sports entertainment, again.

His motive of coming back from retirement has finally come true with the title win. But the original plans around Daniel Bryan was something different. Daniel Bryan was not about to win the WWE Champion around Wrestlemania. Rather, he was about to compete in a non-title match against the authority figure of Smackdown.

Reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter informed that Shane McMahon was the most probable opponent for him at Wrestlemania 35. They already anted to set the match with a physical altercation. It happened a couple of weeks ago when Daniel Bryan threw Shane McMahon off via hip-toss. This was probably to set the match up in future.

Also, Shane McMahon winning the Crown Jewel world cup trophy could have been another angle to start the storyline angle. But this early planning is no more on the table. The source confirmed that WWE officials scrapped Daniel Bryan vs. Shane McMahon, for now. Any new opponent for Bryan’s Wrestlemania opponent is not in the context, for now.
