Ever since Shawn Michaels decided to hang up his boots, fans always fantasised to see him in a returning match. He had a previous tradition to come out of retirement and also went to retirement with plenty of wrestling still left in him. This time the rumours of Michaels returning were even bigger since the Royal Rumble PPV is going to take place in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas.
However, in his recent appearance on Monday Night Raw, he wiped out all the possibilities of appearing for a one-off match at that event. Later while talking to TMZ sports about the same thing he wanted to show the fans how to enjoy the retirement despite the fans wanting to see him in a match.
Recently, while promoting his movie, ‘The Resurrection of Gavin Stone’, he gave another interview to ESPN and said that it was entirely his decision not to make an in-ring return. The two decision makers in the WWE i.e. Vince McMahon and Triple H respect it a lot and hence they never contacted him for dream matches. This was his comment:
“It’s funny because the two guys who really make the decisions, which is Vince [McMahon] and Hunter [Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque], in seven years have never even approached me. I guess I’m semi-amused that people think ‘Vince is saying this’ and whatnot because those are the two people that understand why and respect why I retired and understood it.”
However, he said someday when he needs money then he might give it a second thought. He always wanted to share the ring with incredible talents like AJ Styles, Rollins, and Samoa Joe. He specifically mentioned the latter name since the wrestling styles of the Samoan submission machine is pretty different from him and hence the chemistry would be fine. This is how he praised Samoa:
“I look at Samoa Joe and I’ve told him a number of times that I see his stuff at NXT and think to myself, ‘Man, I could have a great deal of fun with you’. He’s a guy I have sort of enjoyed, and one of those sleeper guys that no one talks about. We have contrasting styles.
I get that everybody wants to see me and AJ or Seth or Dolph [Ziggler]. From my standpoint, I think really telling a great story out there [is most important].
