Vince McMahon appeared on this week’s episode of WWE Raw with huge anticipation from the fans. WWE.com hinted that a ‘new era announcement’ is coming up where the entire WWE programming can change direction. This happened due to the decline in TV ratings for WWE Raw for some consecutive weeks.
McMahons bringing a big change in 2019
Prior to this past edition, WWE hit an all-time low TV rating. Thanks to the bad bookings on a weekly basis, the situations were becoming worse for the flagship programming of WWE. So it needed a shakeup to get some boost-up in ratings. Who better to do that than Vince McMahon, himself. Additionally, the other McMahons were also there.
Vince McMahon furious on two Raw superstars
We received Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H on the same segment where Vince McMahon was about to make the big announcement. They confirmed to take control of the main roster shows with no middle-men involved to run things. The post of general manager might not exist for now. We don’t have any GMs for both Raw and Smackdown, currently.
Apart from this, there was not any big surprise in-store on that night of WWE Raw. There was neither any such significant change in authority figure selection nor any shakeup thing in the roster. So it basically was a cunning move from Vince McMahon to raise the curiosity high of the fans on his return to WWE Raw after a big gap.
Additionally, he was able to make a fool out of even the officials and the superstars. They kept on guessing on the social media of what could possibly happen to the roster when The Boss appears. But it did not receive any significant changes, for now. Brad Sheperd mentioned that it was a ‘work’ by Vince McMahon to fool everybody.
Here’re his words from the Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, (courtesy ringsidenews.com)
“So I was talking about Vince’s appearance on TV with a well-placed source in the company and I asked them what their take was on the irony of fans giving Vince a huge babyface reaction upon his return to TV while also complaining about the creative direction of the company which he, of course, is ultimately responsible for. Their response: ‘Yep, Vince knows how to work everybody.’”
There’s no doubt that Vince McMahon is a mastermind in the pro-wrestling industry. But in this case, he might get fooled himself. WWE Raw TV ratings will not receive any significant boost in with such ‘worked’ promises. There was nothing such fresh things on the show and nor there will be any on the Christmas Eve edition. So the show might continue to go through this rough phase.
