Over the course of more than the past four months, NXT was rebranded as WWE NXT 2.0 without the influence of Triple H. The originator of the third brand of the WWE is out of the equation owing to heart surgery as Vince McMahon and Co, changed the look and feel of the show changed. Young rookies were given television time over veteran stars. But then ratings have fallen since the launch of the new concept.

According to WrestleVotes, the officials are said to be disappointed with how WWE NXT 2.0 has performed in its first four months.

“Internally WWE is said to be disappointed w/ NXT 2.0 in its first 4 months,” the source noted. “Source said they thought more fans would gravitate towards the newer stars quicker than they have. Could it just be too much, too fast? Either way I don’t expect any changes to the concept… just yet.”

As you can see, officials thought that new age WWE NXT 2.0 Superstars were thought to be more appealing to the audience which wasn’t clearly the case. In an update to the original report, Mat Men’s Andrew Zarian noted that a lot of the blame was given on how abruptly things were changed on Tuesday nights.

“Fan perception of the product isn’t helping either,” the source added. “Changes had to have been made but not like this.”

WWE NXT needed to go through a change, anyway

However, these changes are likely to remain intact in due course given that the NXT system was supposedly “broken” according to many in the company. So an alteration process was needed, any way to fix the problems and move forward.

A much younger audience was targeted for the show to reduce the median viewer age of the show. The median viewer age for the New Year’s Evil special on January 4 was 58.1.

Furthermore, it was recently reported that the WWE NXT 2.0 creative team is no longer independent from the main roster. It now falls under Senior Vice President of Creative Writing Operations Christine Lubrano and Executive Director/Senior Vice President Bruce Prichard. Most of the creative team members from Triple H’s association have already been let go to stop his influence. McMahon is currently overseeing the brand with Prichard.
