For months now, WWE NXT has had its prime babyface player in the form of Bron Breakker but that may not be the case, anymore. Breakker held the NXT Title proudly during his two separate runs and made it look more prestigious by playing a fearless role but he ultimately had to drop the title at Stand & Deliver. That loss might have affected his mind to a big extent.
The former WWE NXT Champion shocked fans and turned heel during the April 4 edition of NXT. It came as an aftermath after he lost the NXT Title at the NXT PLE, Stand & Deliver 2023 although he showed tons of respect to the man he lost the title to, Carmelo Hayes. Raising and shaking the hands of the new champion were hoax gestures.

Carmelo Hayes came out to the ring during the final segment of WWE NXT during the latest episode. He cut a little promo and then called out Bron Breakker. Hayes proceeded to thank Breakker for everything he’s done and for the way he put him over after their match at Stand & Deliver. A handshake was thereby extended when things took an unexpected turn.
Breakker attacked Hayes in the main event segment of WWE NXT
Breakker initially intended to leave the ring but then he came back to alter the entire scenario. Breakker attacked the new WWE NXT Champion as well as his ally Trick Williams. Breakker hit a lariat to put Hayes down and speared him. He then also delivered a powerbomb on Williams before posing with the title. The heel turn will keep him in the title picture.
Before losing the title this past Saturday night, Breakker had been the WWE NXT champion since April 4, 2022. On that night, he defeated Dolph Ziggler to start his second reign as the champion while his first reign lasted from January 2022 to March 2022. Hayes is currently in his first run as the NXT Champion.
He is a former two-time NXT North American Champion and he also was the final WWE Superstar to have held the retired NXT Cruiserweight Championship which was unified with the North American Championship. For the time being, it appears that Hayes’ title feud with Breakker will continue in a new dimension with Breakker acting as a heel.
