Dolph Ziggler surprised the world by becoming the new WWE NXT Champion during the latest episode of the show. Despite being a top WWE Raw Superstar, he will now be carrying the title on the red brand and thereby continue his storyline with the NXT 2.0 brand.

In the main event of this week’s WWE NXT Roadblock special, Ziggler won the belt by defeating Tommaso Ciampa and former champion Bron Breakker in a Triple Threat match. The finish saw interference from Robert Roode who was standing at ringside for Ziggler.

This was the time when Roode pulled Bron out of the way as Ziggler came from behind and took advantage with a superkick to pin Ciampa for the WWE NXT title win.

Ziggler clinched his first WWE NXT title win

This is Ziggler’s first-ever championship reign on WWE NXT and a third world title reign of his entire WWE career. As for Ziggler, he won the world championship for the first time for just more than an hour when it was vacant in January 2011. Then he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, two years later to defeat Alberto Del Rio to win the world title for the second time on the night after Wrestlemania 29.

Rumors have that the ongoing feud between Ziggler and Breakker will continue to produce the main event of the next Specials from the NXT brand named WWE NXT Stand & Deliver on the very same day of Wrestlemania 38 Night One. Breakker is likely to receive his title rematch against Ziggler as he previously confirmed his participation on that upcoming night. But the match is yet to be confirmed by the WWE.
