Brock Lesnar shocked the WWE Universe with his actions on the night after Wrestlemania 39 by turning heel. He turned on Cody Rhodes on that unpredicted night of the year, a move that no one saw coming. With Vince McMahon making his way back into the WWE creative team, many think that he was behind this move but that may not be the case as this plan was sketched long before that.
With WWE changing ownership via the UFC merger deal, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes and the creative process of the company is bound to be affected. The good thing is that their top-most name Brock Lesnar will be sticking around on the programming, unlike the previous update of a potential retirement on the horizon.
Wrestlemania 39: Update On Shane McMahon After Scary Injury At WWE PLE
Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall that WWE did have plans for that surprising Brock Lesnar angle from some time ago and that he had started a program with the top babyface figure of the WWE, Cody Rhodes. This is a piece of relieved news for the creative team as he will be sticking around WWE to work this program,
“Brock Lesnar is sticking around in WWE, and is working a program with Cody Rhodes.
Fightful Select reported this week that while there were some adjustments to Cody Rhodes’ WWE Raw plans, this was not one of them. Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes were not only scheduled to start a program before Vince McMahon, but it was planned well before that.”
Brock Lesnar was aware of post-Wrestlemania plans around him
It was also noted in the report that, “sources familiar with the situation say that Brock Lesnar was aware of his creative plans for after WrestleMania nearly a month ahead of time.” However, he likes to keep things close to himself and only to the important people on the creative team. Hence, he continued to tell people backstage in WWE that he was “finishing up” with the company. It was just that he was swerving with them.
The report also mentioned that they can’t comment on the fact that all members of the WWE creative knew what was going to happen. He’s a special name, backstage, and things around him angles are often given additional priority, no matter what. With Vince McMahon coming back to the creative, Brock Lesnar is likely to gain an advantage of his position like in previous years.
