The Greatest Royal Rumble event has been a great success for the WWE. It was for the very first time that the biggest pro-wrestling promotion in the world hosted such a big international event.
Previously, such shows used to be live events. But, this was made a WWE Network exclusive for the fans.
History was made on that night with 50 superstars competing in the Greatest Royal Rumble match. The previous record was achieved in 2011 Rumble match where 40 superstars competed in it.
This time, Braun Strowman won the contest to establish his spot on the main event scene, even more.
The event was definitely not free from controversy. The female wrestlers were banned from the show which is why some of the fans made negative comments about it.
Saudi Arabia has some strict policies about women performers which is why the sports authority faced a lot of backlashes when an ad containing women popped up on the screen in the middle of the show.
WWE tried to get rid of the controversies and hence dropped Sami Zayn, a Syrian Muslim from the show.
A similar name from the WWE Raw roster was also not seen in the match in the form of Drew McIntyre. Some of the fans speculated whether the issue is same with him or not.
However, reports from stillrealtous.com confirmed that it’s not. The former NXT Champion had the main roster call just a week prior to that.
So, the officials could not finalize his appearance at the Greatest Royal Rumble despite him being a big name.
Providing proper documents were also an issue for him while flying to the middle-east countries.
Check out the updates from the source,
“Visas need to be worked out for foreign talent and Drew McIntyre’s main roster jump just didn’t give them the proper timeframe to make it happen. But since WWE and Saudi Arabia are apparently in a 10-year deal then that probably means WWE will have McIntyre’s travel issues worked out by the next time they take the long trip to the Middle East.”
As you can see, Drew McIntyre can certainly get the test of Saudi Arabia in the near future.
WWE will host plenty of events as per the contract signed with the country’s sports authority. Until then, the Scottish Superstar will continue to build momentum on the flagship show.
For now, he is paired up with Dolph Ziggler forming a team.
