In a piece of breaking news coming out of this week’s WWE Smackdown, we now don’t have any reigning women’s tag team champions. Due to an injury suffered last week, Liv Morgan, one-half of the champions won’t be able to compete in the coming weeks. As a consequence, WWE will crown a new set of champions within two weeks.
Via Michael Cole, it was announced on this week’s WWE Smackdown that Liv Morgan wasn’t cleared to compete due to an injury she suffered last week. This means Liv and Raquel Rodriguez have been forced to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. The good thing for Raquel is that she could still find a new tag team partner and go back in the hunt for the titles.

Also, it was announced on WWE Smackdown that in the May 29 episode of Raw, which is the first TV show after WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, a fatal-4-Way Match will take place to crown the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. The lineup for the match goes as follows: Raquel Rodriguez & TBA vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley & IYO SKY) vs. Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville.
Liv Morgan picked up an injury on last week’s WWE Smackdown
On the May 12 episode of WWE Smackdown, Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez defeated Damage CTRL (Bayley & Dakota Kai) to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. It was during this match that Liv got hurt although nothing in detail was announced regarding the injury.
However, the injury from WWE Smackdown forced Liv to sit out of a scheduled title defense with Raquel against Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville on this week’s Raw. The planned title match was postponed to a later date while Raquel faced and defeated Green in a singles contest.
Soon after the match, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler returned to WWE programming and attacked Raquel. Ronda said Raquel will have to defend the titles against them whether Liv was available or not. At this point, it seems like Ronda and Baszler are the favorites to become new champions. They are now part of the Raw brand after getting drafted from WWE Smackdown during the 2023 edition of Draft.
