Next week’s WWE Smackdown emanating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will witness a major title match. Drew McIntyre and Sheamus will receive a shot at the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. The Usos are the reigning champion but to compete in the announced match, they first need to defend their titles, successfully on next Monday’s Raw.
It was announced on the December 2 episode of WWE Smackdown that McIntyre and Sheamus will challenge the tag titles. At this point, The Usos vs. Matt Riddle and Elias for the titles are already booked for the December 5 episode of WWE Raw in Washington, DC. Hence, the announcement for next week’s contest was a bit surprising.

This match was set up on last night’s WWE Smackdown after The Bloodline’s Sami Zayn defeated Sheamus in the opening match of the night thanks to a distraction from Jey Uso. Later on the night, The Bloodline was preparing to leave the arena for dinner when Sheamus pounced on The Usos with his shillelagh.

Sheamus and McIntyre formed a tag team on WWE Smackdown
It was then that Sheamus declared that he and McIntyre were coming after The Usos’ Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. For the time being, they’ll have to wait for the winner of The Usos vs. Elias & Riddle title match set for Raw. The pair of Sheamus and McIntyre was formed during the build of Survivor Series WarGames as the latter backed up by joining the team of Brawling Brutes.
McIntyre last held WWE tag team championships along with Dolph Ziggler in late 2018 and that was the red brand gold. As for Sheamus, he hasn’t held any championship gold in WWE since he and Cesaro lost the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships to The Usos at WrestleMania 35.

As for the Usos, they recently crossed the 500-day landmark of their historic title reign, toppling the New Day’s previous record to become the longest-reigning tag team champions. They are widely expected to hold onto their titles until WrestleMania 39, just like the Bloodline leader Roman Reigns. The Usos won WWE Smackdown tag titles at Money in the Bank 2021 by defeating the Mysterios and then the Raw tag titles by defeating Team RK-Bro in this year’s May to become the Undisputed champions.
