In the absence of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, John Cena will be the face-figure on WWE Smackdown, for the time being. He has just made his return to WWE TV for a regular schedule on the blue brand starting from this week onward. As announced on the show, he will also be playing the host’s role for tomorrow’s Payback premium live event.
Then next week, John Cena will be back on WWE Smackdown which takes place from his home turf of Boston, Massachusetts at the TD Gardens. WWE generally brings stacked shows to this particular venue, and next week’s shouldn’t be any different with the greatest of all time already set to appear on the card. There’s no update on what he will be doing on the show, as of this writing.

WWE Smackdown: Charlotte Flair announced for a big match
Also set for next week’s WWE Smackdown is a huge tag team match featuring the cornerstone figure of the blue brand women’s division, Charlotte Flair. This week, Shotzi defeated Bayley in her return to action on the blue brand.
After the match, Bayley tried to hit Shotzi with IYO SKY’s WWE Women’s Championship belt, but Charlotte Flair came out to make the save. She first took out IYO before sending Bayley to a retreat. This essentially set up the stage for the tag team match.
WWE has thereby announced the tag team match for the September 8 episode of WWE Smackdown where Charlotte Flair and Shotzi will team up against DAMAGE CTRL members Bayley and the reigning champion IYO SKY. Shotzi is back onboard with a new look and attitude and it’ll be interesting to see whether she could get along with The Queen.
During the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown in Toronto, Canada, Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair were victorious in a tag team match against SKY and her Damage CTRL ally Bayley. After the match, Belair was attacked by Damage CTRL, and her already injured knee was further ruptured. This was done to set up a kayfabe injury so that she could be kept off from TV.
Fightful Select later reported that this knee injury is just a storyline aspect that will allow Belair to take some earlier planned time off WWE Smackdown. She could end up missing TV time for up to three months.
