WWE Smackdown Preview (03/09/21): Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor
Sep 3, 2021 at 1:59 PM
Moving on from a monumental SummerSlam 2021, WWE SmackDown is moving towards Extreme Rules pay-per-view event set for September. En route, the Universal Champion is the busiest person on Friday nights as he is set to feature in another headliner. Tonight, he faces Finn Balor with the Universal Title on the line when the show takes place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
The post-SummerSlam edition of SmackDown on FOX closed with Finn Balor having a face-off with Roman Reigns and challenging him to a title match for this week. The segment saw Balor attacking Reigns when SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos backed up The Tribal Chief.
Balor would then be triple-teamed by the heels until The Street Profits – Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins made the save. Reigns watched from the ramp as The Usos were taken out in the ring by the Profits. Balor would then end the counterattack with a Coup De Grace on one of The Usos.

After what transpired on SmackDown, WWE Official Adam Pearce announced Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor to go down on this week’s main event slot. This is the same lineup that should be retained for the Universal Championship Match at the Extreme Rules PPV event, as well.
WWE Smackdown Preview (03/09/21): Feud around Smackdown tag titles
In the meantime, a new rivalry is also expected to begin for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships where The Street Profits are likely to become the new challengers to The Usos. The crime-in-partners for Roman Reigns are over with the feud against The Mysterios and the contenders’ spot is free, at this point.
Speaking of the Mysterios, it was last week that for the first time, we have seen cracks in the relationship between Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Sami Zayn defeated Dominik in a singles contest after which Dominik lost his cool and walked away from his dad. Could this mark the beginning of an anticipated father-son rivalry in the future? We’ll find out what’s next for them on SmackDown.

In the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture, Becky Lynch is back on the top spot with her return as she regained the title from Bianca Belair at SummerSlam in just 26 seconds. But being The EST of WWE, Belair is someone who won’t go down with such a bitter memory. Rather, she is focused on winning back the gold, as quickly as possible.
As seen last week, Bianca Belair defeated Carmella, Zelina Vega, and Liv Morgan in a Fatal-4-Way Elimination Match to win the number-one contender’s spot. Now, she is coming after The MAN and her title. While the new challenger for the champion is confirmed, the next title match is yet to be officially announced. So, when could we expect to see Belair vs. Lynch II? The answer will perhaps be received on the latest episode of SmackDown.
